EYE CONCEPTS SERVICES

Our first store opened in Fairfield, NSW, in 2009 with the mission to provide the best possible eye care in the local community, with Southland being the first store outside of NSW. As a trusted optometrist across ten locations, we carry out our support and expert knowledge of eye care with the same passion and dedication in each location. Curious about what services we offer at Southland? Read on to discover.

Bulk Billing Eye-Test

Even if you don’t suspect eye health issues, you must visit for a regular eye exam to maintain optimum eye care and detect problems early.

Regular eye tests at Eye Concepts are bulk-billed under Medicare. It means that all Medicare recipients are eligible to receive standard eye exams with no out-of-pocket expenses and without having to file paperwork for reimbursement. Under the new coverage plan for the eye test, qualified individuals under the age of 65 are covered for a comprehensive eye examination every three years. In contrast, recipients over 65 can get a bulk-billed eye test yearly.

Digital Eye Strain Relief

While using digital screens simplifies many of our daily tasks, it can lead to discomforts like tired and dry eyes or even headaches and trouble sleeping. These issues can fall under digital eye strain, caused by blue light, reduced blinking rate, repetitive eye movement and uncorrected vision problems. At Eye Concepts Southland, we provide several lens solutions with different to help prevent eye strain.

Contact Lens Fitting

Contact lenses are a popular solution for many people who need to correct their vision, considering they can provide clear vision without obstructing your vision as frames do. However, to get started with contact lenses, you need a specific eye examination. During this examination, our friendly optometrist measures various aspects, such as the curve of your cornea or pupil size. This information is vital to determine the correct size and features of contact lenses, which is key to maintaining eye health. Our Southland team offers this service.

Macula Degeneration Assessment

Macula degeneration is one of the most common causes of age-related eye issues. However, when it’s detected early, there are more treatment options to minimise its effects. That’s why we recommend everyone to come in for a macula degeneration assessment once they reach the age of 60. If needed, they can create a vision care plan which will maximise your eyesight for longer, and of course, our friendly optometrists at Southland are here to help.

Ortho-K Overnight Lenses

Ortho-k or orthokeratology is a treatment primarily suitable for children with progressive myopia or nearsightedness, but ortho-k can also be beneficial for some elders. This non-surgical treatment can help sharpen your sight during the day by using a type of overnight lens that helps to reshape the cornea. If you or your child are experiencing symptoms of myopia/short-sightedness, it’s vital to visit your optometrist promptly for a comprehensive examination for the correct contact lens prescriptions. If you have questions and are interested in discovering more, your local optometrist at Southland can help you better understand and determine if this treatment is suitable.

Children’s Eye Health

When it comes to formative and intellectual development, maintaining good children’s eye health is essential. We recommend that your child have their eyes tested from age three and every 2-3 years as they go through school. We do this to avoid difficulties at school and in life, whether it’s the ability to read the school board or their proprioception when participating in sports.
