Meet Your North Sydney Optometrists

Optometrist Lisa Marie-Voon

Lisa Marie-Voon

Lisa graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2017 with a Bachelor of Optometry and Bachelor of Vision Science and is therapeutically qualified and AHPRA-registered.

She joined Eye Concepts in 2020 and has a clinical interest in orthokeratology, working with patients on tailored, modern approaches to vision correction.

In 2026, she transitioned to a part-time role to balance her passion for eye care with looking after her young daughter. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys playing basketball and unwinding with Korean dramas. She looks forward to welcoming you to the clinic for your next check-up.

Optometrist Anne Zhang

Anne Zhang

Anne graduated from UNSW in 2020 with a Master of Clinical Optometry and Bachelor of Vision Science, is also therapeutically qualified and AHPRA-registered, and previously practised in regional Australia before joining the Sydney team.

Anne's clinical interest is myopia control and orthokeratology, and she works with patients on personalised approaches to more complex vision needs.

Outside of optometry, Anne enjoys spending time with her dog, powerlifting, and exploring different cuisines.

Eyewear at Greenwood Plaza

Being based inside Greenwood Plaza means the North Sydney practice doubles as a destination for eyewear, not just clinical care. In-store designer ranges include Ray-Ban, Oliver Peoples, Oakley, Maui Jim, Prada and Gucci, alongside a rotating selection of CHANEL frames. Our eyewear stylists work alongside your optometrist's prescription to match frame style, lens design and budget, so the appointment and the fitting can often happen in the same visit.

Who Visits Our North Sydney Practice

North Sydney's optometrist needs vary depending on who's walking through the door. Office workers based in the CBD fringe often book an eye test around long screen hours and ask about options for digital eye strain. Families in Waverton, Wollstonecraft and Neutral Bay bring children in for routine vision checks alongside school health screening. Patients managing myopia, particularly teenagers and young adults, ask about Ortho-K as a non-surgical alternative to daytime glasses or contact lenses. And Medicare-eligible patients, including those over 65, use the bulk-billing service for a standard eye examination at no out-of-pocket cost.

Contact lens wearers make up another regular part of the practice, whether they're switching from glasses for the first time, changing lens type, or due for a routine fitting check. Because improperly fitted lenses can cause discomfort or eye health issues, we treat a contact lens fitting as its own appointment rather than an add-on to a standard eye test.

What Happens During Your Eye Test

  1. Initial discussion — your optometrist asks about your vision history, any symptoms, and your lifestyle or occupational needs.

  2. Vision and refraction assessment — testing how clearly you see at different distances to determine your prescription.

  3. Eye health examination — checking the front and back of the eye, including retinal photography where appropriate.

  4. Discussion of results — your optometrist explains findings and any recommendations in plain language.

  5. Next steps — this may include a new glasses or contact lens prescription, a referral, or a recall date for your next check-up.

Getting to Greenwood Plaza

Eye Concepts North Sydney sits inside Greenwood Plaza on the corner of Miller Street and Pacific Highway, close to North Sydney train station and the Warringah Freeway on-ramps. Patients arriving by train can reach the practice on foot in a few minutes, and regular bus services run along Pacific Highway and the Miller Street corridor for those coming from Waverton, Wollstonecraft or further along the lower north shore. Greenwood Plaza also has on-site parking for patients who prefer to drive, which makes the practice a straightforward mid-week or lunchtime stop for office workers based in the North Sydney CBD.

Bulk-Billed Eye Tests vs Private Consultations

Understanding the difference between a bulk-billed and a privately billed eye test helps with planning your visit. According to Services Australia, Medicare covers a comprehensive eye examination once every three years for patients under 65, or once every year for patients aged 65 and over, when the appointment is bulk billed by a participating optometrist. A privately billed consultation may apply outside these windows, or where additional testing sits outside the standard Medicare item. Our North Sydney reception team can confirm your eligibility before your appointment so there are no surprises on the day.

After Your Appointment

  • Collect your new glasses or contact lens prescription, if issued, from our North Sydney team.

  • Book a follow-up if your optometrist has recommended a review of a specific condition.

  • Ask about Digital Eye Strain Relief lens options if extended screen use is part of your day.

  • Note your recall date, particularly if you're over 65 and eligible for annual bulk-billed testing.

  • Call the practice on (02) 9922 2057 if new symptoms develop before your next scheduled visit.

  • Ask about frame and lens options from the in-store range if you're due for new glasses.

  • Update your health fund extras details with our team if you're claiming for glasses or contact lenses.

Digital Eye Strain in a CBD-Adjacent Practice

North Sydney's office worker population means digital eye strain comes up often in consultations. Extended screen time, reduced blinking and glare from overhead office lighting can all contribute to tired, dry or irritated eyes by the end of the working day. Where uncorrected vision problems are part of the picture, a standard eye test can identify this; where the issue is more about screen habits and lighting, your optometrist can talk through lens coatings and simple adjustments alongside your prescription.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an eye test cost at Eye Concepts North Sydney?

Eligible Medicare card holders can have a comprehensive eye examination bulk billed at no out-of-pocket cost. We also accept private health fund extras cover for glasses and contact lenses.

Where is Eye Concepts North Sydney located?

The practice is in Shop C04, Greenwood Plaza, on the corner of Miller Street and Pacific Highway, North Sydney. It's a short walk from North Sydney train station and accessible by bus along Pacific Highway.

How often should children have their eyes tested?

Optometry Australia recommends children have their eyes tested every two to three years from around age three, alongside earlier checks if a parent or teacher notices signs of a vision problem.

Do I need a referral for a contact lens fitting?

No referral is needed. You can book a contact lens fitting consultation directly with an Eye Concepts North Sydney optometrist, whether you're a first-time wearer or switching lens types.

What is Ortho-K and who is it suitable for?

Ortho-K is a non-surgical treatment using overnight lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea, most commonly used by people with myopia who prefer not to wear daytime glasses or contact lenses. Your optometrist can advise whether it's suitable for your prescription during a consultation.

How do I know if I need a macular degeneration assessment?

Macular degeneration is one of the leading causes of vision loss in older Australians, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, and risk increases from around age 60 or with a family history of the condition.
