Finding Us at Stockland Mall Merrylands

Eye Concepts Merrylands sits on Shop 1032 within Stockland Mall, right on McFarlane Street in the centre of Merrylands. The practice is straightforward to find whether you're arriving by car, train or bus, and our team is happy to talk you through directions over the phone if it's your first visit.

If you're driving, Stockland Mall offers free on-site parking across multiple levels with direct access into the centre, so there's no need to feed a meter or hunt for street parking on McFarlane Street or the surrounding Memorial Avenue and Pitt Street area. For those arriving by public transport, Merrylands Station sits directly adjacent to the mall, with regular Sydney Trains services along the T2 line, and local bus routes stop right outside the centre, making the practice one of the easier Eye Concepts locations to reach without a car.

Stockland Mall is also home to a wide range of supermarkets, cafes and everyday retailers, so an eye test can easily be folded into a regular shopping trip rather than treated as a separate errand. Many of our Merrylands patients book their appointment around a weekend grocery run or an after-work visit to the centre.

We also welcome patients from the surrounding suburbs of Guildford, Greystanes, Granville, Auburn, Parramatta and South Wentworthville. Granville and Guildford both sit on the same train line just a stop or two away, while Parramatta is a short drive or train trip along the M4 corridor, making Eye Concepts Merrylands a convenient option whether you live locally or are travelling in from a neighbouring suburb.

Who an Eye Test at Our Merrylands Practice Is For

Merrylands is a busy, multicultural town centre with a strong mix of families, commuters and long-term residents, and our optometrists see patients across every stage of life. We regularly assist:

  • Families with school-age children who need a first or follow-up eye test

  • Commuters who pass through Merrylands Station and want to fit an appointment around their journey

  • Contact lens wearers looking for a fitting consultation alongside their standard eye examination

  • Older patients eligible for an annual Medicare bulk-billed eye test

  • Anyone experiencing symptoms of digital eye strain from extended screen use at work or study

Optometry Australia recommends adults have an eye examination at least every two years, or more frequently if a risk factor or symptom is present — our optometrists can advise on the right interval for your individual circumstances during your visit.

What Happens During Your Appointment

A standard eye test at Eye Concepts Merrylands follows a consistent, structured process so you know what to expect before you arrive:

  1. Book online through our booking widget or call the Merrylands practice directly to arrange a time

  2. On arrival, your optometrist will discuss your vision history, any symptoms, and your lifestyle or work requirements

  3. A comprehensive eye health assessment is carried out, checking vision clarity, eye pressure and overall eye health

  4. Your optometrist will discuss the results with you in plain language and outline any recommendations

  5. If glasses or contact lenses are required, our in-store stylists can help you choose frames or arrange a contact lens fitting

Eye Care Services Available at Our Merrylands Practice

Alongside standard eye tests, our Merrylands team offers a full range of optometry services to suit different needs:

Merrylands' mix of young families, students and commuters means our optometrists regularly adjust each consultation to the patient in front of them. A parent bringing in a primary-school-aged child will need a different approach to a commuter who spends most of the day on a screen, and our team tailors testing and advice to suit.

Choosing Between Glasses and Contact Lenses

Many patients visiting our Merrylands practice are deciding between glasses and contact lenses, or want to use both depending on the day. Glasses remain the simplest option for most patients, and our in-store stylists can talk you through frame options that suit your prescription, face shape and budget, including a wide range of designer and everyday eyewear available in-store and online.

Contact lenses suit patients who want freedom from frames during sport, exercise or work, but they require a separate fitting consultation in addition to a standard eye test. This is because your optometrist needs to measure factors specific to contact lens wear, such as corneal curvature and tear film quality, which aren't assessed during a routine glasses-based eye test. Patients new to contact lenses are also shown correct insertion, removal and hygiene technique before leaving the practice.

How a Bulk-Billed Eye Test Differs from a Comprehensive Assessment

A Medicare bulk-billed eye test covers the core components of a standard vision and eye health check at no cost to eligible patients. Some patients may also benefit from additional testing — such as retinal imaging or extended contact lens assessments — which can sit outside the standard Medicare item and may involve an additional cost. Your optometrist will always explain which parts of your visit are bulk-billed and which, if any, carry a separate fee before proceeding, so there are no surprises.

After Your Eye Test

What happens after your appointment depends on the outcome of your assessment, but most patients fall into one of a few common paths. Some leave with a clean result and a recommended date for their next check. Others are guided towards new glasses or a change in contact lens type, and a smaller number are referred on for further investigation with an ophthalmologist if something requires closer attention.

A few things to keep in mind once your appointment wraps up:

  • If new glasses have been recommended, our stylists can help you select frames suited to your prescription and budget, with a wide range of designer and everyday options available in-store

  • Contact lens wearers should follow the wear schedule and hygiene advice given by your optometrist to reduce the risk of irritation or infection

  • Book a follow-up if your optometrist has recommended ongoing monitoring for a specific condition, such as early-stage macular changes

  • Keep a note of your next recommended test date, particularly if you're eligible for an annual Medicare-funded test
